Five Plus stars for filming in the Highlands. less stars for acting & plot. I wonder if Siobhan Finneran has any other expressions than that of O'Brien from Downton Abbey? Having never seen Breaking Bad I've no clue as to Laura Fraser's acting - i just give her credit for being from the nearby area. Filmed the summer months of 2016.

It was interesting to view the bonus interviews & the scenery authentic. The Loch itself is somewhat overwhelming to sit & view, dark, so calm it's eerie & the depth is near disbelief. The Ft. Augustus Locks (at the bottom end of LochNess are easily seen just with a G search, a drone captures the beauty. The Caledonian Canal & Locks, also easy to find, wonderful to walk the paths along the banks. The Locks at the upper end of the loch are easily walkable from the town rail & bus station. I'd have been more interested had the story of the Brahan Seer & the development of the locks from the Irish sea through the land out to the Atlantic been the subject. If Nessie is your interest you'll find no shortage of gee-gaws in the area.

Watched this series in one afternoon ... it was interesting but not up to usual BBC or ITV standards. The story was stretched out into 6 episodes, when they could have finished it in 3 or 4 episodes. One of the observations I have is that the person who ends up being the murderer does not fit the murders and the 'why' of the murders is too ridiculous and beyond comprehension. As far as the college kids, they were beyond obnoxious and I found myself wanting something horrible to happen to them all, but especially to the daughter of the main female character .. she was the worst. If this were me. I think I would have thrown her out of my house for the way she disrespected the mother in the story.
In spite of the gorgeous Scottish locations, I would recommend this with a big dollop of disbelief.

Dark mystery series with numerous murders taking place in and around Lochnivoy, a fictional town on Loch Ness in Scotland. Good acting, especially by lead local investigator played by Laura Fraser, and a decent screenplay saves the circuitous story, which was drawn out to 6 episodes. The ending comes out of nowhere, so most of the build-up goes for naught unfortunately.

I enjoyed this whodunit! I also enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the village, the loch, and the mountains. Makes me want to go to Scotland.

I just binge-watched the entire 6-part series on my tablet with Hoopla (10 movies/episodes per month with my library card!) - no waiting! The scenery of the series is breathtaking and there are plenty of red herrings to distract us from the true baddie and enough gore for most. The primary detective is a bit naive, unused to murder in her sleepy village, and the brassy DI brought in from Glasgow and her volatile profiler sidekick muddy the water and heighten everyone's unease. The ending is less satisfying than I could wish - just didn't ring true for me, but the overall experience is one of time well-wasted.

Love the setting, the characters, and the mystery of it all. It is similar to Broadchurch in that at one time or another every character could be the sought after guilty party. Of course, you don't know until the end.
