Why would someone pick up a book titled the Duke of Pleasure and think there would be no love scenes? This is the story of a woman who was abandoned on the streets of a slum when she was five years old. She longs for a sense of normalcy. She dreams of a husband and children but feels they can never be hers because of her beginnings. I found nothing perverse in this book. Alf saves the Duke's life and they work together to bring down a depraved society of noblemen. I found them to be admirable and interesting characters. I would recommend this book.

Unlike her earlier books, this one is disgusting with numerous graphic descriptions of perverse sexual acts. They do not add to the story. They are just there to tittilate readers with a taste for them. What a pity that such a fine writer should descend to writing smut.

In Duke of Pleasure, we get a blast from the past, with a special visit from the Ghost of St. Giles, and already, I was happy to be reading this book. Also, no secret agendas or terrible backstories. What you see is what you get, which brought some lightness to the story.
