"Still reeling from the events of "I AM GOTHAM," the epic first arc in Tom King's brand new BATMAN series, the Dark Knight finds himself up against some of the biggest (literally) threats he's ever faced within the city limits of Gotham. To save the city he loves, Batman enlists the help of the toughest members of the Bat-family including Nightwing, Batwoman and more! Also in this volume, Batman must take on some familiar foes who have stolen something from Gotham--and the Caped Crusader's limits will be tested as he fights to get it back. Breakout writer and former CIA analyst, Tom King (GRAYSON, THE SHERIFF OF BABYLON) is paired with superstar artists Riley Rossmo and Mikel Janin in this knock-down, drag-out superhero story"-- Provided by publisher.

I'm continuing to grow as a Tom King fan from his work on the Vision to now his work on Batman. Having said that, this story isn't without its flaws as Batman is just about becoming predictable in his inability to be beaten or broken (on a permanent basis) regardless of how bad things look. The creators are going to have to find new ways for the Dark Knight to creatively be taken down a few pegs.

Again, I really wanted to like this. But it was just mediocre. I read a review on Amazon about the writer Tom King "checking off all of the required boxes" and crafting solid, but not memorable work- and that really sums up my own review. Like he's covering all the bases, and the art is solid (I like Finch's work a lot, actually), but there's no emotional punch, no surprising twists, blah character development simply not much WOW.

Batman has had hundreds of storylines told, and for a volume like this to be mediocre and splash down noiselessly somewhere in the ocean of mediocrity doesn't really do it for me any more. There's a lot better stories out there to read than Tom King's run. Sadly for me, I've already read most of the good ones from the 80's and 90's already... I'll probably give Volume 3 a read to close out the Bane storyline King has been building up to- and then give up on Batman comics for half a year or so and then check back in in late 2018. Maybe the Dark Days: Road To Metal and White Knight storylines will be good...

For now, not much to see here, its better to just move along and spend your time on other books or shows.
