"Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods, on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, with the woman sitting inside--the woman who was killed. She's been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It's a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm. Her husband would be furious if he knew she'd broken her promise not to take that shortcut home. And she probably would only have been hurt herself if she'd stopped. But since then, she's been forgetting every little thing: where she left the car, if she took her pills, the alarm code, why she ordered a pram when she doesn't have a baby. The only thing she can't forget is that woman, the woman she might have saved, and the terrible nagging guilt. Or the silent calls she's receiving, or the feeling that someone's watching her..."-- Provided by publisher.

I enjoyed Behind Closed Doors and looked forward to this read but from the beginning found it tiresome and predictable. And the event that enables Cass to retrieve the key to the mystery is utterly preposterous. I was shaking my head at this point. Yes it was a page turner, but only in the sense that I kept scrolling through the pages quickly to get to the end.

I loved this book just as much as Behind Closed Doors. There were some parts of the ending that I did anticipate but overall the ending caught me off guard! Great story -- highly recommend if you like psychological thrillers.

I thought this psychological thriller/mystery was too predictable. I finished the book even though I knew where the story was headed; I hoped to be surprised by some twist of plot. Some interesting characters and the lure of wondering if I was wrong brought the rating up to 3 stars.

"The Breakdown" is a book which deals with a murder following what appeared to be a car breakdown and the nervous breakdown which Cass Anderson seems to be facing. I must confess that at first I got a little tired of the descriptions of Cass forgetting things; but I'm glad I persevered because the book got really gripping. I felt pretty smug when I thought I'd solved the mystery but it turned out I'd fallen for the red herring. The ending is very satisfying and makes the book a definite must-read.

I think this book was just as good as Behind Closed Doors. I was surprised at the ending, which was somewhat twisted in itself. B. A. Paris is one of my new favorite authors!

Liked both Books The Break Down and Behind Close Doors by B.A. Paris this is a psychological thriller. I do agree that it got slow in places and dragged along. I feel the author had to developed the characters of Cass and Matthew and friends to further the story line. The mind games being played, the personalities and personal traits of those involved gave this book needed depth. Cass was dealing with the murder of her friend, guilt and afraid she was the next to be murdered. The games and tricks, fake phone calls and her mental status all played into her delusions. When Cass finally started to figure out what was going on I felt the author did a good job. Characters in both books were well developed and the plots were good. Look forward to reading more by B.A. Paris in the future.

A little disappointed with this book. I loved "Behind Closed Doors" and I couldn't wait to read the author second novel. The story seems very repetitive.

The Breakdown was both frustrating and suspenseful, but the ending was worth it!

I hate when after thirty pages, you feel like you've heard this story before. And you can pretty much guess the ending.
"The Breakdown" read like a Lifetime Movie of the Week, with an unrelatable heroine who I wanted to slap for being such an idiot.
It had none of the insidious horror of Paris' first book, which was a gem.
A disappointing, mediocre read.
