The 11th Commandment: Thou must conform shows how society punishes those who do not conform. How this Medic survives one of history's worst battles is truly an inspirational story worth watching.

One of the best films I ever watched. It kept me on the edge of my seat. This film showed pure love for family & humankind, no explicit love scenes, no R rated language...it was just wonderful. It was wonderful to see someone with such strong beliefs. I can't believe that I wasn't going to pass this film up because it was a war film.

Amazing true story of a man who believed killing to be wrong, but still felt duty-bound to contribute to the war effort as a medic, refusing to carry or use weapons despite backlash from his own side. Very moving story of heroism. Warning: fairly graphic battle scenes.

A truly extraordinary story and Andrew Garfield's best movie. Yes, it is visually jarring but it is a war movie and Mr. Gibson is somewhat uncompromising in his portrayals of violent history.

Technically well done but the violent and graphic scenes are too long. It presents the horror of war.

One of the most inspiring films I've ever seen, telling the story of of a man who becomes a hero under fire without firing a shot. The courage it takes to go into the carnage of war is great, but it fades beside the courage of a man who goes into battle unarmed for the purpose of saving lives instead of taking them. An amazing motion picture!

Directed by Mel Gibson and originally released as a motion picture in 2016, this 139-minute WWII docudrama depicts a story of Desmond Doss, an American pacifist combat medic who was a Seventh-day Adventist Christian, refusing to carry or use a firearm or weapons of any kind.
Doss' unit was assigned to the 77th Infantry Division and deployed to the Pacific theater.
During the Battle of Okinawa, Doss' unit was informed that they were to relieve the 96th Infantry Division, which was tasked with ascending and securing the Maeda Escarpment ("Hacksaw Ridge”).
The battle at Hacksaw Ridge turned out to be one of the deadly battlegrounds during WWII.
Doss became the first conscientious objector to be awarded the Medal of Honor, for service above and beyond the call of duty during the Battle of Okinawa.
It is one of the best anti-war dramas I've ever watched.

Excellent movie about how courage is not necessarily just macho physicality in the middle of war. Based on the true story of a WWII conscientious objector who bravely served as a medic and persisted despite his peers' hazing and his superiors' attempts to have him categorized as crazy. Sweet love story in the background, a good counterweight to horrific depictions of the war in the Japanese-held islands.

Violence: Gruesome, realistic depictions of battle, death, and Japanese harikari (suicide as an honorable act). Also emotional and physical abuse/beatings of the conscientious objector.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: In addition to a ton of nasty war violence, there is a scene early on of a man's leg graphically injured in an accident. A young man's parents fight; one holds a gun and seems to contemplate turning it on himself. Boys brawl and one is hit with a brick.

Sexual Content: A soldier's naked rear is visible as he lounges in the barracks before being forced to run the obstacle course. Bunkmates rib him about his anatomy. Another man is reading a magazine with a drawing of a topless woman. A married couple kisses passionately.

Violence: Here's where the movie gets the R. I saw it in theaters and had to look away several times. Relentless wide shots of shooting, maiming, and killing during the last half, and numerous close-ups of nasty injuries being treated.

Coarse Language: Occasional, relatively mild language. No f-bombs.

Tons of quotes in IMDb already but this one:
I've done everything they asked me, except this one thing, and I'm being treated like a criminal just 'cause I won't kill.
-You tried. Nobody can say you didn't. But who are you going to save in prison?
Probably nobody.
-Then why can't you just pick up the stupid gun and wave it around? You don't have to use it, just meet them halfway.
-I can't do that.
Yes, you can. It's just pride. Pride and stubbornness. Don't confuse your will with the Lord's.
-Have I been prideful?
Maybe I am prideful. But I don't know how I'm going to live with myself if I don't stay true to what I believe. Much less how you could live with me. I'd never be the man that I want to be in your eyes.
-I fell in love with you because you weren't like anyone else and you didn't try to be. Do not think for one moment that you will disappoint me. I will love you no matter what.
