Somewhat funny but moves at a snail's pace. Mostly boring. I love Meryl Streep but this movie didn't hold my attention. Maybe I just missed the point of the movie.

I liked this movie more than I expected I would. It is based on an interesting and true story. I didn't find the comedy to be all that funny, but it was a good drama about music, love and the lengths people will go to protect and support a loved one. Hugh Grant and Simon Helberg give nice, understated performances that balance the strength and big personality of Streep's character. This isn't the first movie Stephen Frears has directed which celebrates music; I highly recommend his film High Fidelity. Florence Foster Jenkins is rated PG-13 for brief suggestive material.

lovely movie because I admire Meryl and Hugh! It is actually about someone who did what she loves despite all circumstances which was the strong point out of the movie, and it is also a love story. I recommend it if you like Meryl and Hugh , otherwise you will be annoyed by her singing.

Adds new meaning to the term "damage control!"

I read the reviews on this movie and based on them, I couldn't wait to watch it but here's what happened: when I was a kid, I had an ear infection which led to an ear drum being scarred. Any time that I hear music that is flat or pitchy, my ears ache. When Meryl Streep opened her mouth to let escape her caterwauling, I had to mute her. I found the wigs, costumes and sets hilarious, though, and while I did not think this was an Oscar peformance for any actor, it was a hoot.

This movie was very funny and heartbreakingly sad. Streep and Grant gave excellent performances, as expected. I was surprised at how complex this movie was. I thought it was just a comedy, but it was much, much more.

A light comedy, ably directed by Frears. Meryl Streep is, as usual, great. An enjoyable evening.

An interesting movie. Streep gave her usual stellar performance. Interesting to read the end notes about the real-life characters.

A marvelous movie. I give it 5 stars. Not only is Meryl Streep brilliant in her role, but Hugh Grant has also given an Oscar worthy performance. The other actors are also at the top of their game. All in all, a lovely movie well worth watching!

I really enjoyed this film - as always, truth is strangers than fiction! Contrary to what another reviewer has indicated, I actually did some research and learned that most of what was portrayed in this film is pretty accurate historically. One of the minor female characters in the film is sort of a composite of several starlets, and she knew the composer (McMoon) for quite a while before he actually started to accompany her, but other than that, most of the details mesh pretty well with reality. In fact, you can even listen to original recordings made by Jenkins and you will find that Streep did a great job sounding like the real person! I thought the acting was excellent and the story pretty heartwarming.

(Money owned the media and public opinion then as today:)
Maestro, it is true that a lot of singers my age are on the decline, but I seem to just get better and better.
===
Mr Wilson, are you leaving already? She's only just started.
-I've heard enough. Thank you.
Oh, she just needed a little warming up, that's all. Listen to her.
-I have never seen such a pathetic, vainglorious display of egotism in my life. That you encouraged Mrs Jenkins to make a spectacle of herself is quite simply unforgivable.
-Will you be writing something?
Yes, and it will be the truth.
-Isn't the truth that a lot of hurt people are having some fun? Did you not notice?
Music is important. It should not be mocked.
===
Give the dame a break! She's singing her heart out.
-Yeah, and her heart sounds like a dyin' cat!

(Britprincess is right to pick this quote as the best:)
Was everyone laughing at me the whole time?
-I was never laughing at you. Yours is the truest voice I have ever heard.
...
No, I could never never sing again. Except to you. People may say I couldn't sing, but no one can say I didn't sing.
===
Your voice was as fresh as the morning dew till the very last, Florence.
===
You're nothing but a jumped-up hack. Name your price, Wilson. What is it? 100? Is it 200? $300, that's my final offer.
- You're insane.
500. .... Listen! Listen to them, hack! " sings "Queen of the Night" (out of tune) Figlia mia non ... (sings coloratura, out of tune) ... (sings coloratura sustained out-of-tune, high note) ...
