I got kind of bored with it. I like her but felt she didn't really bring anything new or interesting to these songs. They seem like they are classic songs so to cover them without any kind of reinvention feels like both a missed opportunity and also an underwhelming experience. Her album might reference elegance but the word that came up when I was listening to it was "bland."
Kristin Chenoweth tackles the Classic American Songbook in this dreamy orchestrated album. One of the greatest parts of this album lies in its charm, ease, and sophistication. Each refrain contains deep, multidimensional layers of emotion that shine through along with her breathtaking vocals. Perfect for a pensive rainy afternoon or an early romantic cocktail hour, Chenoweth's voice will soothe your soul and make you feel that all is okay with the world. Seriously, it doesn't get much better than this.
Flawless performance of flawless music, and yes all selections exude elegance. Though perhaps just a little too perfect and definitely not breaking any new ground with these Broadway standards. Nevertheless an enjoyable album and fans of Chenoweth or these songs from the standard Broadway repertoire will want to check this album out.
