"In the spirit of the season, New York Times bestselling author Anne Perry presents readers with the gift of another holiday mystery, taking them to the Holy Land for an intriguing and miraculous journey of discovery. The year is 1900, and Victor Narraway is giving his wife, Vespasia, an unforgettable Christmas present--a trip to Jerusalem for the holiday. Vespasia is enchanted by the exotic landscape of Palestine, and charmed by a fellow traveler they meet at their hotel in Jaffa. But when the man is murdered over a torn piece of ancient parchment he was taking to Jerusalem, Victor and Vespasia risk their lives to finish his mission and deliver the mysterious document to its home. Pursued by a shadowy figure with evil intent, they embark on a dangerous yet ultimately enlightening pilgrimage to the holy city, where the mysterious message on the parchment may finally be revealed. Rich in mystery, suspense, and wonder, A Christmas Message is at once a breathtaking adventure story and a poignant meditation on faith and spirituality. "When Victor Narraway, Thomas Pitt's close friend and former boss, and his new wife, Lady Vespasia, travel to Jerusalem for a Christmas holiday, Vespasia cannot shake the feeling that they are being watched. Then, an old man leaves a mysterious envelope for Narraway--and is murdered soon after. But it is only when the couple is ambushed the following morning that they realize they are in grave danger. Armed only with the instructions from the message in the envelope, they immediately set out on a journey through the Holy Land ... while their unknown enemy pursues them all the while"-- Provided by publisher.

Made me think of A Pilgrim's Progress; a Victorian Pilgrim's Progress! The story laboured at times but there were bright sparks here and there.

This book started out interesting then it became so far fetched and into religion. Honestly, I did not understand three quarters of it. I had no idea what the characters were saying. It was too philosophical and religious for me. If you are not christian, this book does not make any sense whatsoever.....I love Anne Perry, but this book.........

Much prefer Perry's usual Christmas mystery. This piece was too mystical, very unbelievable and quite confusing.

While this looks like a usual holiday offering, this book is very insightful and inspiring. A wonderfully perceptive read, and one I highly recommend.
