Glen Hansard's journeyman career has so many fantastic stories, from his shy film debut in The Commitments to the surprise success of his indie hit film Once. In between he has lifted audiences around the world with his spiritual, driven performances, as the leader of lauded Irish heroes The Frames, and half of the duo The Swell Season.

It's hard to miss the influences of Van Morrison, Iron and Wine, or even Connor Oberst here. Excellent album if you're looking for something subdued.

Rhythm and Repose is a very mellow album and a slow burner; the more times I listen to it, the better it gets. I can hear Van Morrison's influence in some of these songs. "Talking with the Wolves," "High Hope," "Bird of Sorrow" and "Love Don't Leave Me Waiting" are my favorites here.
