Lessons from the night --"This innovative documentary follows Maia, who reflects on life, work and toilet bowls on her nightly cleaning rounds through silent, empty spaces. As she works, she reveals some of the secrets of the city - the traces of human presence that we leave behind each day - and of her former life in Bulgaria." -- Container.
"Karen has left her slimy but successful husband Mario after ten years of marriage. She needs a fresh start to find out who she is and who she could be, despite her husband's proclamation that she can do absolutely nothing. She walks out into Bogotá with no job, no friends, and hardly any money, but catches a break when she meets a hairdresser named Patricia at a cheap flophouse. With her younger and seemingly stronger friend by her side, Karen takes her first steps towards independence and self-discovery." -- Container.

Very interesting mid-life change drama about a woman exploring adult romance after 10 years of an unfulfilled marriage.

This Film Movement selection (Film 6, Year 9) takes place in Bogota, Columbia so there are fascinating street scenes, etc.

Great story, great acting, great film. Very understated performances all around. It's a tale that's been told many times before, in fact: A woman in mid-life leaves an unhappy relationship and then struggles to find herself, while trying to avoid the many pitfalls along her new path. You'd think this might not make for the most compelling drama, but in fact it does, precisely because we can all relate to it at some level. What's a term meaning "the opposite of an escapist chick flick"? This film is that. (This is a Film Movement film. Film Movement selections are generally good, in my opinion.)

A very interesting film from Colombia about a woman with self-doubt and trapped in an unhappy marriage, struggling to succeed in leading an independent live. A glimpse into lives in modern Bogota is a bonus for me.

An interesting remake of "An Unmarried Woman," this film contrasts Bogota's filthiest flop house and a runaway, penniless wife with her former affluent enslavement.

A Colombian version of the Oscar-nominated film (1978?) Paul Mazursky's An Unmarried Woman? There are so many similarities including how the film ended except the very reason why Karen left her husband. Still, the movie is worth watching and if you haven't seen the original/US version, then it's about time.
