This is the second book of the maze runner series. After the group of teenage boys and one girl finally escape from the maze they are surprised to find that another phase has begun. They again go through so many journeys throughout the book. After reading the first book i realized that these books have really good lessons. One being that, to accomplish something you must work as a team, I think i ended up liking this book a lot better than the first because when i read the first book i was a little bored at the beginning but this book had me hooked all the way through. We found out even more things about the characters and even got to meet a lot of new ones. There was a lot of world building happening in this book as well, which made it so much more interesting to read. I would totally recommend this book to teenagers ages 13-18. I would give this book a 4.6 out of 5 stars.

James Dashner twists a thrilling and macabre story describing the utter desolation of the fall of society and ultimately government.

Much different than the movie. Still, very exciting as the Gladers make their way through the Scorch.

This book is a fast-moving sequel to Maze Runner. The characters are well-developed and the plot is interesting.

Amazing book with lots of romance and action. The author did a great job of making you want to know what will happen next, so good that I could never put the book down. It gives a bit about Thomas's old life and you learn a lot about group B. It made up to be be a great story.

Oh man, this book just grabbed me by the front of the shirt and yanked me through the whole thing.
The mystery from the first book is still there; we still don’t know who Thomas is, or what WICKED is doing, or how any of these trials will help save humanity. This mystery is such a powerful driving force in reading this series, and I’m dying to understand it all.
Some of the images were pretty disturbing, which was simultaneously admirable because of how well they were written and how they added to the intensity of the plot, but also made it unenjoyable at some points (however, they were completely appropriate for the genre and mood of the book). I literally grimaced at some points when I was reading.
As far as characters go…I’m not sure I saw much character development, but there wasn’t really an appropriate time for that kind of thing in such a plot-driven novel. I’m not sure what I thought of the whole “Betrayer” plotline. I’m also really unsure of what’s up with Brenda.
There was a lot of unconsciousness…not necessarily good or bad, just an observation.

I really enjoyed all the books in the series so far. I read the Maze Runner and I am almost done reading the Scorch Trials. They are both very action-packed and can be enjoyed by teens and adults all around. I would recommend it to anyone who likes Dystopian societies, action, or thrill. I have also watched the first 2 movies and I am currently waiting for the third. By the way, my favorite character is Newt (Just putting that out there).

The Scorch Trials is the second book of The Maze Runner series. Now that Thomas and the Gladers have escaped the Maze, they're now facing a whole new array of challenges. Enter the Scorch Trials, where they have to cross the Scorch and WICKED isn't planning on making it easy for them.
I had adored The Maze Runner, but I feel like The Scorch Trials was a big step down. The pacing was agonizingly slow, I don't know how long until there was something actually happening. Characters like Thomas and Newt had no development. Group B was pretty much pushed to the side the entire time. I'm not sure why, but this was my least favourite book in the series.

I am a bit indifferent with this whole series as it is. Our teacher asked if anyone would recommend her a series of books to read and some guys suggested this one. I honestly think they don't really even care about the books because they seem like the people who just watch Netflix all night. The book is probably better than the movie, but alas it has been a while since I actually read this book so I cannot pull direct proofs. The movie actually helped me in comprehension a bit more, probably due to its simplicity of detail. Truthfully though, I think that the Cranks are freakier than the Grievers... what was this author thinking when he came up with these monsters??? 4/5 stars.

The Scorch Trials is easily my favourite of the Maze Runner trilogy and surrounding fiction. My best guess as to why? I liked that it figured things out a bit without revealing everything. I loved the way it was written, and although generally I’m not one for being scared by what I read, I couldn’t put this one down no matter how much it frightened me. I found it went into depth about the characters a bit more, and how they got where they were, and for many of them, what their life in the Glade was like pre-Thomas and how that shaped them. It also allowed readers to see this world for themselves and why everyone was so terrified about it, especially when it came down to the Flare. Even though there were a lot of heart-wrenching moments, there were also twists and turns to keep any reader’s eyes glued to the page. This is also the book where I got the connection about the names, but I won’t spoil it for you!

Thomas is a relatable character who faces many challenges throughout the novel. The author’s simple style of writing allowed the readers to relate to the characters with made up swearwords, emotions, and choices. This action packed adventure had me gripped to the book with new surprises every step of the way. There was plenty of detail to help paint a picture in your head. Overall, this book has very few flaws and many interesting points. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a high action novel with a good storyline. I rate The Scorch Trials an overall 5/5 stars.

After the maze, the runners come to a new threat, the scorch

JessicaGMei Jun 29, 2012

In the beginning of this breathless, adventure-crammed tale, Thomas and the Gladers are "safe, rescued, and delivered" to a nice clean dorm, having lived through their escape from the Maze. As Thomas snuggles into his bunk bed, listening to the snores of his friends, he can also hear Teresa speak to him in his mind. Since she is the only girl in the group, their rescuers have sequestered her in a separate room. Speaking mind to mind, they discuss their fear that they will never lose the image of the terrible Grievers. But they haven't seen anything yet…
Thomas slips off to sleep and into a dream that seems to be a memory of an event that happened when he was a very small child. In the puzzling dream-memory, his mother cries as she tells her son that she doesn't know why he was chosen, but that he's special. The young dream-Thomas asks if she will become crazy, the way his father and other people have. As the dream ends, he again hears Teresa speaking in his mind: "Tom, something's wrong."
That turns out to be quite the understatement. Thomas can't quite seem to wake up, even when he realizes that Teresa is screaming. Even as he sleeps on, he's aware that there are noises around him --- sounds like shrieks of pain, yelling and crashing. But those are nothing compared to his sudden realization that Teresa is gone. Even when he calls her in his mind, there’s no response.
Thomas fully awakens…to a living nightmare. The other Gladers are running around pell-mell, staring aghast out the window and obviously terrified beyond belief. He sees a horrifying person standing outside his barred window. The stranger appears crazed --- covered with wounds, scars and burns --- and is begging Thomas to kill him. As if that isn't bad enough, Thomas and the others find an unbelievable sight when they leave their dorm rooms. In the large room hang the dead bodies of their rescuers.
As horrendous as things are, Thomas knows he must find Teresa. He goes to the room she slept in, and outside a sign displays these words:
Teresa Agnes. Group A, Subject A1.
The Betrayer.
In the room, instead of Teresa, he finds a boy who introduces himself as Aris. He says he came from the Maze and then proceeds to tell Thomas an incredibly shocking story. Before long, Thomas, along with Aris and the other Gladers, head out on an urgent quest. To reach their goal, they must cross the blazing Scorch. Along the way, Thomas occasionally experiences more of his own lost memories in short-dreamed snatches. Unfortunately, this only makes him even more mystified at what they reveal and what they don't. He also encounters a most unexpected enemy, along with a bit of a romantic triangle, during the ensuing adventure.

Jun 20, 2012

After being "saved" from WICKED the Glader's are in for another test called a Trial. They are sent off to a desert and are told to travel 100 miles to the north to reach a Safe Haven with the cure from a horrible disease called the Flare.
