"Alice In Wonderland" is a remarkable, surreal trip down the rabbit hole where young Alice encounters such bizarre characters as the Mad Hatter, and Tweedle-Dee & Tweedle-Dum.

This pre-CGI animated film was produced in 1951 at Disney Studios on a budget of $3 million.

With a brief running time of just 75 minutes - The story of "Alice In Wonderland" moves along at a fairly quick pace and its entertainment-factor remains quite interesting throughout.

Hello, darlings! - I think that the Queen of Hearts is an absolute scream.

(*Mad Hatter quote*) - "We're merrily celebrating your happy un-birthday!"

Apparently - When this animated, musical, fantasy/adventure film was initially released back in 1951 - It was quickly met with plenty of negative criticism for (get this!) being too "Americanized".

Well - My question regarding that is - What the hell did these high'n'mighty critics expect this kiddies picture to be since it was made by Americans in America? Eh? Like - Hello!?

Anyway - For the most part - I quite enjoyed this particular Disney production. It was a decidedly trippy, surreal and whimsical journey down the rabbit hole that contained enough wacky and bizarre moments in it to clearly set it apart from many of the "cute & sweet" feature films that Disney Studios was noted for making during this notable era of pre-CG animation history.

The 4 characters who I liked the most in this "Americanized" version of "Alice" were - Tweedledee & Tweedledum, the Mad Hatter, and of course, the outrageous Queen of Hearts ("Off with her head!").

I loved this film. The old style hand drawn animation, rich in colour and story, that was well portrayed as a young girl's dream. I do not recall having seen this when I was a child, but saw this as a man, and it by far surpasses the Tim Burton, Johnny Depp version. I think of this Disney film is such high regard, i have it in my library and gave away the latter.
I have not read either books, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland nor the sequel, Through the Looking Glass, written by Lewis Carroll, but i was blown away by this animated film version.

Another classic retold by Disney, with all of the color, music, and imagination I look forward to experiencing! I re-watched this one on the heels of reading Marissa Meyer's "Heartless," and it was fun to see the characters again as they are in the movie, and then admire how Meyer developed her characters into them, in the prequel.

Today we went to see the play called Alice in wonderland at the Braemer House School elamentry it was in the gym the Gr. 3 class were putting on a play it was really good I remeber I borrowed this DVD from your collection in 2010 and then my teacher put this movie on in our class that same year that the 2010 movie came out and i also watched the play but our teacher gave us all a ticket to go see the play it was all the way until home time and I watched this movie in Gr. 2 with my class the teacher brought it in but we didn't finish it too bad um and also my teacher put on A Goofy Movie in Gr. 2 I was in Gr. 2 and when goofy sad the mambo king i repeated what he said everybody mambo but my classmates told me to be quiet i don't remember the teacher telling me too but I think she did but my girls that they were my friends told me too I don't remember that much from Gr. 2 because it was a long time ago and when they told me to be quiet i said what i know what he's gonna say i have this movie i could't help it i knew all the words from this movie i never knew what does fancy means but it means really cool and trousers I didn't know what it means before when i was little but it means pants now I know I am watching this movie today I have a golden classic collection i had ity science 2012 i am watching it because it is June and she sings with the flowers the month of june and this one red flower looks a lot like her mother and I never knew he was blowing his nose I always thuoght it was touching his nose to make music and I never ever ever do a thing for a thing for me I never heard him say that too and Alice wanted him to help her but he didn't know she needed help and she asked everyone to help her but everyone was so busy doing there own things i didn't hear them say that's manners i thought they said thats lageg the tweedledee and tweedledum i mean and she says well i am trying t find the white rabbit it was nice meating you goodbye and they said do you want to pay hide and seek and i never heard tham say that no I didn't hear her say it either if you stay long enough we might have a battle i never hear them say it i thought they if you stay we can see who's strong enough of course they don't want Alice to leave and they fake crying so she decided to stay longer and when they sang and this what it was the middle of the night i never heard them say that I heard them say the day of the night and it is funny when a guy takes off his shoes and he has a lot of sand I didn't hear him say kings and when the guy that fell in a hole got his head stuck he saw fish and pulled his head out and he was hungry later the walrus pulled him aside with his cane and hit him in the head I always thought that was funny and he went in instead and when he's in underwater the fat guy with the osters call them and they have a calander inside the water that is funny i never noticed it was a calander then the guy says should we get hungry on the way we could stop and have a bite and he hits him with his cane that is funny and it is funny that the osters have a calender and the big guy says he needs some lofe of bread and the carpenter goes in then comes out and says how about some pepper, salt and vinegar while he took them then put him back oh yes of course indeed and I thought he said we can begin the feast but he said feed and they repeated him then when he went back he ate them all as a kid I always wondered where they were i didn't know he ate them i thought they were plates and as the other guy wanted to eat he saw that he ate them all and he chased him with a hammer and the guy went through the door i didn't hear Tweedledee and Tweedledum said another presentation then alice goes to a small house and she sees a whlite rabbit and he calls her Mary-Anne and tell her to find his gloves.

"Off with their heads!!" says the Queen of Hearts.

The brightly-coloured magic of Disney Studios' talented animators is applied to Lewis Caroll's classic story in this 1951, feature-length cartoon with mostly entertaining results.

As with the book, the film is episodic and somewhat lacking the customary Disney warmth. But a few wonderful sequences - Like the Mad Hatter's tea party and the appearance of the Cheshire Cat - certainly make it worth a view.

Alice In Wonderland features the voice talents of - Ed Wynn, Sterling Holloway, and Kathryn Beaumont.

SAPPHIREBEAR15 Jul 02, 2012

On the bank of a tranquil English river, a young girl named Alice grows bored of listening to her older sister read aloud from a history book of William I of England. When her sister chastises Alice's daydreaming, Alice tells her cat Dinah that she would prefer to live in a nonsensical dreamland called Wonderland. Alice and Dinah spot a waistcoat-wearing White Rabbit passing by, and Alice gives chase as he rushes off claiming to be late for an unknown event. Alice follows him into a rabbit hole and falls into a labyrinth. Her dress balloons out and she begins to float. She sees the White Rabbit disappear into a tiny door and tries to follow, but the door's talking knob advises her to alter her size using a mysterious drink and food. Alice eventually manages to shrink and passes through the door's keyhole and into Wonderland. She meets several strange characters including the Dodo and Tweedledee and Tweedledum who recount the tale of "The Walrus and the Carpenter."
