Talk about files directly from a living, breathing mad scientist's collection!

A quote from his website says it all:
"My most elaborate personal obsession has resulted in a website (periodictable.com), the books (The Elements, Molecules, and Reactions) with about a million and a half copies in print and millions more in App form, a Popular Science magazine column that ran for ten years, and numerous spinoff products including posters, card decks, puzzles, and so on. All of which started from a misunderstanding."

My eight-year-old daughter and I read this aloud cover to cover at bedtime over the course of a month or so. The author is passionate about elements (and element collecting!), and he presents each of them to the reader as though introducing an interesting friend or acquaintance. We learned a lot and have newfound respect for these mighty building blocks of matter.

beautiful photos, concise descriptions of Elements from the Periodic Table. I was pleasantly surprised with the tongue in cheek humor / hubris of the author. His writing of the cause & analysis of the chemical compounds in some cases is lol. I peruse the picture book at night before bed; I feel like I'm learning something about chemistry w/o being forced to understand chemistry.

Excellent book! Great photographs and information (and a touch of humor) on all of the elements, The author's website on the Periodic Table is also worth looking at.

I can't say I've ever been interested in elements whatsoever, but this book stood out to me on the science shelves and I'm glad I picked it up. Really gives a good, enjoyable rundown of what existence is made of.
