1. by now after watching some of director bertrand blier’s movies (1974-2005), I can say that he is a maverick in sex comedy.
2. this 1978 (release date) film has a different style compared to his others.
3. here, he shows long scenes of people talking about topics in marriage, sex, music etc. these remind me of good old days of stage performance, in which the actors deliver intelligent & absorbing dialogs w/ excellent acting. of course, blier uses short montages to avoid any static or boring feeling. i particularly like the scene in which the husband describes how a resurrected mozart is guided by his own music to go to the home where it is being played.
4. there are no explicit sex scenes like in “going places” (1974) or “how much do you love me?” (2005). instead, only subdued or suggestive scenes, notably such as told by a precocious 13-yr boy.
5. as a writer & director, blier really thinks outside the box in sex comedy. i can see he reinvents himself in each subsequent film, not only in creating subsets of sex topic but also in evolving different film styles & emphasis. his films are always hilariously funny & mentally offbeat yet inspiring.
