Tim Buckley is probably best known, if he's know at all, as the father of Jeff Buckley. Both had highly distinctive voices, blended genres, and died young. Apparently, Jeff only met his father once before the latter's dead from a heroin overdose at 28. This 2-disc, 33-song anthology is definitely the place to start and it shows his music evolve from run of the mill folk to a more jazz-y, avant garde blended of styles, which recalls Van Morrison's "Astral Weeks." His last few albums would be classified as "sex funk," although I see little evidence of it here. His signature track "Song to the Siren" appears twice. For individual albums, "Happy Sad" and "Starsailor" are considered his best.
