Add a CommentAn excellent technicolor adventure film about the knight Ivanhoe searching for where King Richard is imprisoned and raising his ransom against the forces of King John out to stop him. The writing, acting and directing is all topnotch especially a very young Elizabeth Taylor who is quite stunning in her period costumes. An all around winner.
A forgotten classic, this movie features a fine performance by Robert Taylor as Ivanhoe, and the lovely Joan Fontaine as his fiancee. Set around the same time as Robin Hood, with Prince John on the throne and Ivanhoe searching Europe's castles for the imprisoned King Richard who Ivanhoe refuses to believe is dead, as everyone has been told. This movie has a beautiful message of Anti-semitism and is one of the rare films that address the fact that Jews were mistreated in the British Isles. Elizabeth Taylor plays a Jewess and George Sanders plays a wicked knight who has designs on her. Compelling drama that is suitable for all ages.
I don't think this is about "Mouseketeers."
