Great movie >> classic 80's political thriller and the Beautiful Sean Young ~ 420

I liked this movie right up until the ending. I wasn't wild about that. I like the original movie better.

This is a remake of the 1948 film, The Big Clock, starring Charles Laughton as the journalistic big shot against his employee that is played by Ray Milland. In the new 1987 remake, it is big shot politician played by Gene Hackman against a navy officer played by a rather youthful Kevin Costner. Both films are quite good with a frenetic pace of the innocent good guy just escaping a multitude of times by just a millesecond. I really don’t know which version I like better. Both are excellent adventures.

This is actually a re-make of “The Big Clock” and part of its flaw is that Costner’s characters relationship to Sean Young’s is made too romantic and honest instead of the other way around like it was in the original. I know that not every movie an actor makes can be good but I was very disappointed with Sean Young’s performance. This movie could have been a lot better.

An interesting spy film with a surprise ending.

It's a real "time capsule' of an eighties movie with a solid cast, a cracking script and really solid direction. Twists, turns and more twists come at a breakneck pace which leads to a very satisfying conclusion. Rather than read about what I thought, I'd get a copy and watch it yourself!

Costner was great in this movie.

Nice sexy thriller but ending was messy and characters became irrational. Great reviews at amazon etc:

"There's a Russian submarine out there. We've been ordered to find it and keep up." "Maybe we'll get a chance to use the depth charges?" "That will be the day." "Yeah, the last one."
